Spark (“the App”) is a personal, fleeting-thought capture tool. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how the App handles your data.
What we do not collect
No account, no sign-up, no sign-in — we don't collect any account information
No analytics, statistics, or advertising trackers of any kind
We do not share or sell your data to any third party (with the single exception described under “Optional Feature: AI Transcript Polishing” below, which only runs if you deliberately turn it on and confirm it)
No third-party SDKs are included in the App
Where your notes and recordings live
The text and voice recordings you create in the App are stored only in your iPhone's local storage. Nothing is uploaded to any server we operate — because we don't operate any server.
Speech transcription
Speech-to-text runs entirely on your device (using Apple's built-in on-device speech recognition). Your recordings never leave your device for transcription.
Optional Feature: Export to Obsidian
If you choose to connect a folder (for example, an Obsidian vault stored in iCloud Drive), the App writes your notes as Markdown files into that folder. Any further syncing of those files is handled by your own iCloud (or whichever sync service you chose) — the App is not involved in, and has no visibility into, that syncing process.
Optional Feature: AI Transcript Polishing (Pro)
This is the only feature in the App that sends any of your content to a third party. It is off by default, and turning it on requires you to complete these steps yourself:
You choose a third-party AI provider (for example DeepSeek, an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or a service you host yourself) and enter its endpoint URL, model name, and your own API key;
The App shows a confirmation dialog stating exactly which address your text will be sent to, and you must actively tap to confirm — simply filling in the fields does not enable the feature by itself;
If you later change the endpoint to a different provider, the App treats this as a new third party and asks you to confirm again.
Third-party protection. The AI polish provider is chosen by you and billed to your own account; we do not resell it, do not proxy it, and cannot see what is sent. Accordingly: the confirmation dialog names the exact destination your text will be sent to and you must actively confirm it before any sending begins; changing the destination requires a fresh confirmation; and we require that you only point this feature at a provider whose privacy protections are no weaker than those described in this policy — please read that provider's own privacy terms (whether your content is used to train models, and how long it is retained) before entering its address. If you prefer not to involve any third party, you can point the app at a model you host yourself (for example Ollama on your own network), in which case your text does not leave hardware you control. In all cases, your audio recordings are never sent to any third party.
Once enabled, only the transcribed text is sent to the third-party provider you configured, in order to turn spoken language into cleaner written text (adding punctuation, fixing misheard words, removing filler words). Your original audio recording never leaves your device, and is never sent to us or to any third party.
Your API key is stored in your device's Keychain; neither we nor any third party can access it. You can disable this feature or clear your key at any time in Settings, after which transcription happens entirely on-device again.
Data deletion
Deleting the App removes all local data on your device. You can also delete individual notes at any time within the App.
